Case study · Documentary film

The brief
GlobalFund CF, working in partnership with the Uganda National NGO Forum, needed a documentary that could preserve and communicate the story of Napedo. The village had lived through years of insecurity. Following government disarmament, people who had once been caught in that cycle chose another direction: pooling their resources and collective effort to build a school for their children. Our task was to tell that story with honesty, dignity and the community's own agency at its centre.
The story began with people, not a predetermined script. Interviews and observation allowed community voices to establish the meaning of the school and the change around it.
We worked across classrooms, homes and open landscapes, building a visual language from the real environment rather than separating the story from its place.
The film presents the school as the result of a community deciding what should come next—an effort that later drew organisations to stand behind a cause already in motion.
Our role

The story
Napedo's story is not framed as rescue. It is a record of people choosing to reform their lives after disarmament and directing their energy toward something their children could inherit. The first school grew from pooled community resources and a belief that education could interrupt an old cycle.
That visible act of commitment drew the attention of organisations that joined the cause and helped the community move toward a more established school. By keeping the camera close to the people, places and daily realities involved, the documentary shows progress as something built collectively—from within the village outward.
Behind the scenes
The production vlog follows our crew into the field and offers a closer look at the people, locations and practical choices behind the documentary.
The outcome
The film makes one thing clear: Napedo's future began changing when its people chose to build it together.
The documentary gives GlobalFund CF and the Uganda National NGO Forum a grounded account of community-led transformation—one that can help partners, supporters and wider audiences understand not only what changed, but who set that change in motion.
